Klix Brush Set Review - Go Green!! Featured on The Tyra Banks Show & Used by Mr.Sam Fine in his pro kit!
FTC Disclaimer: These brushes were sent to me by the owner of Klix for my personal opinion, I was not paid to do this post, I am not affiliated with this company and was not influenced by anyone, I'm just giving you my 100% honest opinion.
Back in April Linda the owner of Klix brushes contacted me about me trying her brushes and giving her my personal and professional feedback, and as you guys know I love trying new products and reviewing them. I asked her about her company and how the brushes came about, She said it's about being sanitary and avoiding infections that are unnecessary and unhealthy it's also a great way to go green, I think. The brush heads are disposable so I asked her how long does she recommend we can keep the brush heads before tossing and getting new ones. She gave me some information that i will now share with you before I give my honest opinion.
Most of us know that dermatologist recommend deep cleaning brushes once a month as long as you don't share with anyone else, so Linda said they did lab clinic cultures and the results were:
One month of use = germs
Two months of use = bacteria
Three months of use = staph aureus
So you want to change the heads centainly before 3 months, The owner Linda suggest every month and a half because we have a certain amount of bacteria on our face anyway but you wouldn't want to get to the staph aureus phase. She said they also did hundreds of surveys and over 80% of women said they hate cleaning their makeup brushes because it's such a hassle, even though they know it's bad for them, so Klix is a solution for that. She also told me there was recently a report that said over 77% of women never clean their makeup brushes, she said she spoke to a well known dermat0logist and he said they see acne, bacterial contact infections and staph from dirty makeup brushes, also that it's very difficult to really get your brushes clean from bacteria because it settles into the base of the brush head and the left over residue from the cleaning process just creates more bacteria, once your brushes are infected so is your makeup.
Linda also told me the only comment she received was about the powder brush, some people use loose powder and forget to tap off the excess and the consumer said the powder did not adhere to the brush but once she told her to make sure she tapped off the excess the powder adheres to the brush great and the consumer was happy. She says the brushes are of excellent quality, healthy and affordable.
Ok so now I can tell you my opinion on the brushes, since Linda said you can use the brushes for up to 3 months I decided I would use the set for three months before I made my review. I'm not a person who uses makeup on a daily basis so I decided I would use personally but also try them on some clients. I personally think the brushes are of great quality, they are very soft to the touch and feel amazing on the skin. I got the same feedback from my clients, I think they are very well made with a button on the bottom to click the brush head off for replacement, nice sturdy black handles with a silver ferrule.
You get 3 brushes in the set:
1 powder brush
1 blush brush
1 concealer brush
I love 2 out of the 3, that is the blush brush and the concealer brush, the blush brush is stiff yet soft and is great for blush but also I used it for my liquid and cream foundation which left me with a flawless finish, I also used it for bronzer to contour so to me it's a multipurpose brush, The concealer brush is a great size for concealing but also to pat on foundation when not using all over the face, it's great for under the eyes and for spot checks, I also love it to apply any kind of emollient products such as paint pots on the eye lids and even cream blushes, it's also great to place cream products for contouring before blending out.
Now the powder brush is not my fav simply because I don't like long bristle brushes, I feel they are too flimsy, I like my powder brushes more dense with a bit more control but that is my personal preference it doesn't affect the performance of the brush, it is great to just dust powder all over the face such as translucent powder, etc.
Ok so I'm very anal with being sanitary so I'm not one of the women who has a problem with washing my brushes on a regular basis, I deep cleanse twice a month and spot clean after every use, now that's just me. I treated these brushes the same way I do all my brushes, so I feel maybe I can get more use out of the brushes but since it is recommended you change the heads every 3 mos I wanted to use them 3 mos and see how they held up and if you look at the photo above that is the set she sent me back in April along with the boxes of refills so you can see how they look and how the refills come. I think if you are using them for personal use and don't do makeup on a regular basis you can get a bit more time from them, if you do use on a regular basis but wash them once a month and spot clean I think you can do the 3 mos, if you are an avid user and don't spot clean or deep clean as you should then I would say change the heads after 1 month and a half as she recommended because you don't want to get to the staph phase. If you are using as a professional I would recommend you changed them every month and a half or 2 but definitely not to exceed the 3 months.
Ok now lets talk money the prices are as follows:
Brush set of 3 $59.95 ( on the site for $54.95 right now)
Blush brush replacement heads set of 2 $10.95
Powder brush replacement heads set of 2 $11.95
Concealer brush replacement heads set of 2 $9.95
According to Linda there was another report out that said 77% of women never clean their brushes, so a lot of women won't change the brush heads once a month but it they change them every 3 mos it would at least limit the exposure to staph aureas that cause major skin infections and bacterial acne, she figured it would cost a woman only $5.50 per month if she changed the 3 heads every 3 mos, if she changes them every 2 mos it would be a little over $8.25 per mos, which is pretty affordable.
Now I think financially it's all relative to an individuals financial situation and lifestyle.
I think if you take care of your brushes and are sanitary, you may not feel that you need to get brushes like these and have to replace heads every 2 -3 mos, it may not be cost effective for you but if your a working makeup artist and money is of no object then these brushes should definitely be a staple in your kit.
I think the brushes are really good quality and a great idea to keep all things green but also to help with aiding in healthy beautiful skin. So in a nutshell if you are an avid makeup user and don't want to be bothered cleaning your brushes then these are perfect for you, if you are a person who takes care of your brushes and can have them a long time then maybe this is not for you but you can also extend the life of the replacement in that case in my opinion and add these to your collection and if your a pro makeup artist I would certainly recommend them as far as the quality and how they perform along with the sanitary aspect for you and your clients, I mean Hello Sam Fine uses them.
I hope this review long as it is was helpful and I will have a link to the Klix site below.
Linda also has a Kabuki brush coming out soon so lets look out for that too.

Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder
FTC Disclaimer: This item was sent to me by Smashbox for review purposes. I am not affiliated with Smashbox, I was not paid to do this review and I'm giving you my honest opinion.
Anyone who knows me knows that I love, love, love the Smashbox brand, It's in my top 3 favorite makeup brands. It was one of the first high end brands I discovered back in the 90's when I couldn't afford it lol but I do really love this brand and this product is no different. I love the whole Halo Collection because it's all about perfecting the skin and it helps to minimize signs of aging, I call it my preventives collection.
The Facts: It's oil free, talc free, and paraben free. It's packed with high performance ingredients like gold and 48 different minerals and a powerful peptite which perfect skin and gives you that gorgeous glow. Its patented hydration system delivers time released moisturization for a radiant, healthy complexion all day. Clinical studies have shown that a 33% decrease in the appearance of wrinkles around the eyes in 10 mins., 67% decrease in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles in 6 weeks.
My Review: I have been using the bronzer for about 3 months on and off. I have also used the bronzer on clients as I often do when testing a product. I'm not the best person to test for wrinkles, especially for long term effects like the 6 weeks as I don't really have any yet but I did notice in the time I was testing it that my skin did look a bit smoother, I can also say that it gives my skin this beautiful natural glow, which is what I look for in a bronzer, I love matte and non-shimmery bronzers if I'm going to use one and this does it for me, the shade is just a tad bit darker than my skintone so I use it more as an all over the face bronzer but I have used it on clients with lighter skin and it gives a beautiful contoured look with a glow. I do agree with the 10 mins less signs of wrinkles around the eyes because the eyeshadows do the same thing and I have seen great results, it's not botox so lets not get crazy and say "omg you still have wrinkles around your eyes after 10 mins" it minimizes appearance not erases, let's get that clear.
I love the way this bronzer leaves my skin feeling, the hydration system is really great on my dry areas which usually get flakey when I apply powder products. I use it on my chest and shoulders as well alone or over top a self -tanner. I also love the Twist shaver that helps you get the perfect amount of powder that you will need for a single application, which means you will not be wasting product . The texture is so soft and velvety and easy to work with sometimes I just dust it on my face for an even skintone and keep it moving. I'm not a bronzer person but I've really been loving this product for myself and my clients so I would recommend it to makeup artist and makeup lovers alike.
You can find this bronzer at www.sephora.com, www.ulta.com & www.smashbox.com and it retails for $39 which I think is a decent price for the product that your getting which is helping your skin stay young and beautiful. There are many bronzers out there that are great and cost less but are not helping you get healthy, and more beautiful skin.
Pretty Glow Pink Face & Body Bronzer
I got this bronzer a few weeks ago when Victoria's Secret was having a sale so I don't even know if they still have it but it was originally $15 and I got it 50% off yes 50% off which means I paid $7.50 it is 18.5g/.65 oz, so it's a pretty big bronzer.
I saw it and it reminded me of the Jemma Kidd Bronzer from Target, Show Stopper I think it's called which I can never seem to get when I go to my target it's always sold out so I figured what the heck let me give this a try and I must say I was pleasantly surprised as I was with the Limited Edition Bronzer from Victoria's Secret Spring 2010 which I spoke about in one of my videos.
The packaging is made of cardboard and it's not the most practical for storing or traveling but it's very cute and the product itself is really good. Unfortunately for me it's basically my skin tone but fortunately for me it gives me that beautiful glow that I'm always looking for so I use it as a highlight on my cheekbones, over top a blush, on the bridge of my nose, as a brow highlight, on the collar bone and shoulders and over top a self tanner which looks amazing, also great for that sunkist look on the legs. It leaves a nice radiant look to the skin which is natural and beautiful. The texture is soft and blends nicely on the skin. I think overall it's a pretty great product and if you can get your hands on it, I definitely recommend it especially for the price, even if it's full price.
You can find this bronzer (hopefully) at www.victoriassecret.com or a VS Store.
A couple of weeks ago I got a friends and family email for 30% for Juicy Couture (one of my favs for accessories and jewelry) but it was in store only so on the last day I dragged my hubby to the mall to get my 30%, I saw these awesome sunglasses which I've been dying to get, a pair of aviators but these were extra special, they are not only aviators by Juicy Couture but they are Pink........Hello my signature color. I was sold well hold your horses not so fast lol, I opted to getting jewelry and got the signature choker and a limited edition garden ring, which I am very happy with but those damn sunglasses were bugging me soooooo the following week I was, go figure near a Juicy and nothing could stop me then from getting my pink aviators, yup so I wanted to share them with you guys so you too can see how lovely they are.
You can get them at www.juicycouture.com for the bargain price of $98 plus tax lol. They fit really comfortable and the shade is not too dark or too light. I wear sunglasses all year round since I have migraines often and my eyes are sensative to light and brightness and I'm so loving them.
Check them out and while your at it check out all things Juicy Couture :)
